I'm Brittany — a mom of four, photographer for 17+ years, and someone who's been exactly where you are. I do what I do because I know how fast these days slip by, and I want to make sure you remember every beautiful, chaotic, fleeting moment.
Hi there!
August 24, 2026
Family mini sessions in Coeur d’Alene pop up every fall, and you’ve probably seen them all over your feed, the coordinated outfits, the golden light, the promise of beautiful family photos in a fraction of the time. And honestly? The idea of getting it all done in 15 minutes sounds pretty great when you’ve got a toddler who runs on chaos and a schedule that never slows down. But before you hit “book,” there are a few things I really want you to know, because a mini session done well looks very different from one done fast.

Here’s what surprises most families: 15 minutes is enough. Not because we’re cutting corners, but because I’ve spent over 15 years learning exactly how to work within that window.
In a single mini session, I’ve watched a leaf fight break out, caught a caterpillar mid-discovery, had a deer walk straight through the background of a portrait, learned a little girl’s favorite princess, wiped some tears, gotten a little boy to truly belly laugh, and caught mom and dad looking at each other like: hey, it’s been a while since we’ve just taken a moment for this.
That is a full gallery. That is your family.
Families often book minis because it feels like low risk, and I get it. Toddlers don’t exactly have a long attention span. But what I want you to know is that even in those 15 minutes, we will get the photos of everyone smiling together AND the ones that feel like you. That’s why my mini sessions book up fast.

Here’s what I actually believe about mini sessions, after years of running them: the best ones happen because of what we do before we ever get in front of the camera.
Just because we spend less time together on session day doesn’t mean I spend any less time helping you prepare. I’m talking outfit coordination for everyone. I’m talking about how to talk to your kids beforehand so they actually feel excited instead of ambushed. I’m talking about the not-so-small reminder to make sure nobody arrives hungry or sleep-deprived.
Mini sessions are fast and furious on the day of. That’s exactly why I don’t offer them often, and why they’re priced a little differently than what you might see from other local photographers. You’re not just getting 15 minutes of my time. You’re getting the full range of my creativity, preparation, and experience compressed into something that actually works for your family’s season of life right now.

If you’re leaning toward a mini session, here’s what I genuinely wish every family knew going in. These three things will make or break your experience.

There will be traffic. There will be a train. There will be a shoe that goes missing at the last second. Plan for all of it. If you’re late to your mini session, that’s time lost and I can’t make it up because there’s another family right behind you. Being on time is the single most important thing you can do for your session. Arriving a few minutes early? Even better!

A hungry toddler is not a happy toddler. A hungry dad is honestly not much better. Have a snack before you leave the house, and make a plan for after: dinner out, ice cream, something fun. You’re already dressed up. Make it a full family event. I have clients who do this every year and their kids look forward to it so much!

This one matters more than people realize. When you tell me you’re planning to use these for Christmas cards, or that you want a print for the gallery wall in your living room, it changes how I shoot. I’ll focus on the moments and compositions that serve your actual plan. So tell me. The more I know, the more intentional I can be with every single frame.

Family mini sessions in Coeur d’Alene work beautifully for families who want updated portraits without a longer time commitment… especially if you have little ones who do better with a shorter burst of energy. They work when you come prepared, show up on time, and trust the process.
They’re not the right fit if you’re hoping for an extended, unhurried experience where we explore our location longer or shoot at your home, and really settle into a longer story. If you’re looking for someone to guide you from start to finish, from the pre-session prep to artwork on the walls of your home, a full session is going to serve you so much better and you can contact me here to start the process for one!
What I can tell you is this: I have never walked away from a mini session wishing we’d done less. The chaos is still there. The giggles are still there. And so is the magic.

My mini sessions are limited – intentionally so – and they do fill up. If you’ve been thinking about booking family mini sessions in Coeur d’Alene, the best thing you can do is get on my email list so you get first dibs every time they’re released.
